On 25th January we attended our local Holocaust Memorial Day commemoration held at The Lighthouse in Poole. We supported the local Jewish community and especially our good friend Lynda who very much helps organise this event each year as a member of the Jewish community but also as an active and long term member of our Interfaith group.

The event this year was focussing on generational input, and many of the presentations and readings were from youth. The key note talk looked at "Hidden Children" and was personalised with a survivor in Belgium looking at his family experiences. This saw both his parents being murdered in the camps, but him and his 2 little sisters surviving having been hidden by incredibly brave Belgium people committed to helping as many Jewish friends as they could escape the Nazis. Remembrances also involved other atrocities such as Bosnia, Darfur, Rwanda and Cambodia, and also marginalised groups in Germany that also suffered at the hands of the Nazis; Gypsy peoples, The disabled, Homosexuals, Jehovah Witnesses.
